Insurance has far-reaching implications for society because billions of people trust their lives and livelihoods to their insurers. In this leading role, insurance companies should be compelled to deploy AI in a trustworthy manner that will help solve global problems. At the same time, we must recognize that insurers are just one part of a larger ecosystem drastically affected by global warming, cyberwars and economic instability. All players should work together to address these problems – governments, advisory organizations, communities and technology providers alike. Clearly, risk is evolving for everyone. The insurance ecosystem must evolve as well. Embracing AI and moving toward a “predict and prevent” approach is the best path forward.
